GlycanAge Biological Age Testing

Explore another dimension of healthy ageing

Your chronological age tells you how many years you’ve lived. GlycanAge offers a different perspective, using a blood test to estimate biological age based on patterns of glycans attached to IgG antibodies.

At EIRA, we use the results as one piece of a broader conversation about your health, lifestyle and long-term wellbeing.

What is GlycanAge?

GlycanAge is a blood test that analyses glycosylation patterns on immunoglobulin G (IgG), an antibody involved in the immune system. These patterns change with age and are associated with aspects of inflammation and health.

The test uses this information to calculate a biological-age estimate. It is not a measure of your overall health, a diagnosis or a prediction of how long you will live.

What happens at EIRA?

Your appointment begins with a discussion of your health history, lifestyle and what you hope to learn from testing.

Once your results are available, we’ll review them together, explain what they may — and may not — tell us, and consider whether any further assessment or practical changes are appropriate.

The result is best understood alongside your wider clinical picture, rather than as a number to pursue in isolation.

Who might be interested in testing?

GlycanAge may appeal to adults who are curious about healthy ageing and would like an additional data point to discuss during a longevity consultation.

It may also be of interest to people exploring how their lifestyle relates to their long-term health. The test cannot establish the cause of symptoms or replace appropriate medical investigations.

Understanding your results

Biological-age estimates depend on the marker and method used. A GlycanAge result may differ from estimates produced by other tests, and a change in your result does not necessarily demonstrate an improvement or deterioration in overall health.

We’ll explain these limitations clearly so you can decide how much weight to place on the information.
